Practice Tip - Preparing for a Performance

With our holiday recitals coming up, this practice tip is about preparing for the recital. So how can you prepare for a performance?

First, know your song well! Play it super slow, play it with expression, play it standing up, play it in all registers of your keyboard. If you can, memorize it! But everytime you play it, try to make it sound even better than the last time.

Practice performing. Walk away from your piano, then back to it and stand in front, announce your piece, sit down and play your piece, and then stand up and bow to all the applause you will get. After practicing performing on your own, practice performing in front of an audience.

Perform your piece whenever a friend comes over to visit. Perform for your family right before or right after dinner. Get your stuffed animals situated to listen to your amazing performance. Being comfortable in front of an audience just takes practice.
