Feature Article - Top 10 Reasons We Are The Best!

By Pamela Cornell

Move Over Mozart has been teaching beginning piano lessons to children in the greater Seattle area since 1994.  Here are some reasons that we think makes us stand out as one of the best piano schools in the area.

1. Most Experienced

Move Over Mozart has taught over 5000 piano students!  Children have so many different learning styles, personalities, cultural backgrounds, and learning challenges.  Because of our experience, we have many “tools up our sleeves” to help us reach and connect to many different types of kiddos.

2. Long-Standing Reputation

We have been bringing piano classes to children in the Seattle area since 1994!  Our rating at the BBB is A+.  Our rating on Google is 5 stars and Facebook is 4.4 Stars!  That says a lot considering how long we have been in business!  We take the extra step to get to know each family and to make sure all questions and concerns are answered.

3.  Specialized Curriculum Designed For The Pre-Reading Child As Young As 3 1/2 Years Old

What is the best age to start piano lessons?  It depends on the piano program.  Our 2-year preschool piano program is designed for your pre-reading child.  It will give your child the tools necessary to transition into note-reading once they are ready.  In the meantime, there are plenty of fun songs they can learn to play on the piano keyboard!

4. Allows Children (And Parents) To Set Their Own Pace

Some children have many extra-curricular activities.  As parents, you want your child to have many experiences, but you also don't want to overwhelm them.  Also, every student starts at a different place musically.  At Move Over Mozart, we let you and your child set the pace for how quickly your child progresses through the piano program.  No pace is too slow or too fast. We want to challenge your child right where they are at.

5.  Experienced Piano Teachers With Ongoing Training

Much like music, teaching is an art.  We are always improving, adjusting and learning new techniques to reach your child's unique learning style. Each piano instructor has their own teaching style that is fine-tuned through ongoing teaching workshops and lesson evaluations.

6.  Updated Technology And Teaching Aids to Enhance and Motivate Each Child

From oversized music staff boards and walk-on keyboards, a practice app that records and gives bonus points for practicing, to games and inter-active activities, we have many tools that make learning to play piano fun and engaging.  Additionally our online lessons use a video streaming service designed specifically to capture the sound for music lessons, so it sounds like you are actually in the same room!

7.  Perfect Piano Program To "Try-Out" Piano Lessons.

Not sure of your child's interest?  Not ready to invest in an acoustic piano?  Our Crescendo Kids piano program is great for finding out what your child's level of involvement will be before making a serious financial commitment to private lessons. Many parents also use our program as a bridge to prepare their child for the intensity needed in private piano lessons.

8.  Advanced Teachers For The "Serious" Piano Student

When your child is ready for advanced lessons, our teachers are ready for you!  Our private piano instructors have taught many students of all ages and levels.  They know how to encourage and motivate each person, young and old, to reach their musical potential!

9.  Only Month To Month Payments,

NO SEMESTER OR YEAR CONTRACTS!. Start and stop on your schedule and needs.  We also have flexible availability to accommodate your busy schedule.

10.  Achievement Levels For All Children Of All Ages And Abilities

Our music curriculum has levels and achievement standards to help you see how your child is progressing and learning through their lessons.  We celebrate each practicing milestone and accomplishments with brag-tags, certificates, and other prizes along the way.

So, what do you think?  If you haven’t signed up for our online classes, now is an excellent time!  Or schedule a FREE introductory lesson with Miss Pam to answer your questions and see how your child responds.

Student Hall Of Fame

Our students are making great progress! These students have accomplished new goals this last month.

100-Day - Play the piano for 100 days in a row - Nathan H. (*indicates first time meeting this challenge!)

5X5 - play the piano for 5 minutes, 5 days in a week, for 5 weeks in a row - Amira S, Cameron C*, Charlotte R*, Janice L, Jason J, Jordan P*, Nathan H, Owen L, & Samuel S. ( * indicates first time meeting this challenge!)

50X - played their new song 50 times in the first week - Jordan P.

Completed their piano lesson book - Ellis L, Grant P, Luka P, Naoki D, & Samuel S.

Practice Tip

Do something silly! Practice needs to be fun, so be goofy sometimes! Cross your hands and play your left hand high and your right hand low. Stick out your tongue or make a face while playing. Stand up while practicing. Play one hand while giving the Star Trek Vulcan salute with the other hand. Whatever you do, make sure you are having fun doing it!

Pre-Reading - Ages 3 - 5 years, or students not yet reading,
We use a color-coded method for the students to match their five fingers to five keys on the piano.  New songs using only those 5 notes are given each week.

Primary - Ages 5 -7 years or older and brand new to music,
This group is for the very basics of piano playing.  Students learn to play simple rhythms, correct hand position, and the names of the white keys on the piano.

Beginning Elementary - Ages 7-12 years or younger and reading notes,
This is for students just starting to read notes on the staff.  Students are taught how the staff relates to the piano and how to translate the notes to making music.  Also, having the students memorize a few key notes on the staff will help greatly with their ability to read music.

Advanced Elementary - Ages 7 - 12 years with previous piano lessons
This group already reads notes on the staff and can immediately identify many of the notes by name.  They will learn more advanced technique and music theory beyond the initial basics of learning to play.
